My First Wood Ring

Time to go back in time. The following is the first wood (foreground) ring I ever made. I had a small piece of scrap walnut and thought “I wonder if I can make a ring out of this?”. With a scroll saw, drill, a Dremel, and some sand paper I cranked this out. I’ve since completely revamped my build process, however, this wasn’t too bad for a first attempt having done little to no research on ring creation. So with my wedding ring fitting extremely tight, I started to wear this. It lasted about a month before it broke (as you can see in the photo). That’s the problem with solid wood rings. The thin gain pattern at two sides of the ring is weak and tends to snap. I’ve learned so much since this and have applied much better build techniques to overcome the flaws.

The ring in the background was one of my second or third attempts.
